Things I want, today, Nov. 5, 2009:
1. for books 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 of the Jeeves & Wooster series to magically fall in my lap. *cries*
2. gay serial killer fic. Franzi said that I should ask you all for it, but really what I would most like is for you all to go watch Strangers on a Train (Instant watch on Netflix!) and then report back to me with squee & slash and very smart thoughts on whether the homoerotica is the driving sinister force of the film, or whether the homoerotica is a necessary outlet and reaction against the *real* driving sinister force of the film, aka restrictive heterosocial repression, etc. etc.
3. for something nice to happen.
4. for you all to……….. set something on fire and think of me today? It’s GUY FAWKES DAY, COME ON.
5. to know that as far as the balance of this past year is concerned, I’ve come out ahead and not behind.
Today is my birthday. Please, if you have a moment & you feel like it, please tell me something encouraging. It would mean a lot.

Hey, you know what? Some of you were asking about this: Bump of Chicken – R.I.P. This is a leak of their first new single in 2 years, and it’s so quintessentially them that I could cry. Thank you ten million times over to who was lovely and thoughtful enough to give me a link. <3
Read Moreme, myers-briggs, world trees, symbols, bump of chicken, guild, i don’t even know.
when i was in college (many years ago lol) i took the Myers-Brigg repeatedly and got very high-scoring Extrovert-Intuitive-Feeling-Judging profiles each and every time: extreme extroversion, passion, and a severe tendency to act on principle rather than exercising restraint and/or compassion.
Things happened – a lot of very traumatic and life-altering things happened – while i was still in college. My behavior changed, my goals changed, my personality changed, drastically, within a few years. The next time I took the Myers-Brigg test, my score was completely different, namely moving me firmly from extroversion to introversion. In recent years, my Myers-Brigg has been all over the chart, generally falling between an INFP and an ISTJ, with relatively low scores.
This morning, for example, I took the test and got: ISTP
56% Introverted
1% Sensing
12% Thinking
56% Perceiving
i think all this pretty much says that i’m sort of all over the place in terms of mapping out my personality based on actual experiences. i also think it says that appearances can be deceiving; i’m not the head cheerleader-cum-harpy you think i am. ![]()

i have been stalked by images of the World Tree – the Tree of Life / Yggdrasil / The Tree of Knowledge / whatever you want to call it lately. I have seen some reference to it nearly every day for the last two weeks. I have no idea what it means. it is starting to weird me out!
(Cathy says that it means I am going to discover ultimate enlightenment, pilot an Eva, and then die. I disagree with this analysis.)
in honor of my glorious confusion, here is my favorite song from Yggdrasil, and one of my favorite Bump of Chicken songs ever: Guild.
* Bonus: here’s the beautiful, poignant 23-minute long stop-motion animated featurette that accompanies this song’s PV, complete with beautiful instrumentals by Fujiwara Motoo. It is one of my favorite things in life.

is, it’s all so awesome I can’t help myself. And she loves that freaking movie about as much as I do, and I know how much I wanted fanfic after I’d watched it, er, six times in theatres.
Also, I will note that she hasn’t told me to stop.

- I almost commented on someone’s LJ this morning just to say “OMG did you know you go to Rodney McKay’s alma mater!? ARE YOU GOING TO GET A PRIME NUMBER NAMED AFTER YOU?” before I realized that a) that would be very, very dorky of me. Very; b) Rodney McKay is actually not a real person D: and c) revealing how I know about that whole prime number thing would be a) very, very dorky of me. D:
- Speaking of which, can I just say that upon re-watching all of SGA S1, the revelation that John and Rodney never actually play Prime-NotPrime was heartbreaking?
I had such high hopes, SGA fandom! Your epic fanonization is a clear betrayal of my trust. - I LOVE BUMP OF CHICKEN. my LJ updates are just completely useless, aren’t they? But I’ve been in this work-induced funk for the last 2 days, probably because I didn’t have acting class this week and it’s like I missed my regular therapy session or something, haha, but I just this second said ‘fuck this’ and put on my headphones, and found “Holiday” (iheart/kimeru) on my ipod.
And it’s like holy shit, the world is suddenly a wonderful beautiful place and I’m happy and I can do what I need to do. I love them so so so so so so so much.
Yeah, I don’t know, I’m in a silly mood today. I started out despondent and self-hating! Now I am happy and slightly giddy! It is Bump of Chicken, they are like therapy. And also this fic, which I can’t stop re-reading.

wingblossom just held me down (okay, more like she said “hey, so that band you like” and I said “OH MY GOD I CAN’T PICK MY FAVORITES” and flung myself at her for three thousand comments) and forced me to pick.
And i still am not happy with my top 5. it’s not representative at all, and i can’t even pick my top five songs from Orbital Period, let along split that album up into pieces, same with Yggdrasil oh my god and –
and yet I managed to narrow down my top 5. which is really top 6 because “Taiyou” was already listened to and therefore out of the running. And really more like top-5-minus Orbital Period because I cannot pick between 11. Hitorigoto / 12. Amedama no Uta / 15. arrows, I just can’t, but anyway, here is a SLIGHTLY DEFECTIVE TOP-FIVE LIST:
1. Hybrid Rainbow
2. Supernova
3. Guild
4. Planetarium
5. Fire Sign
It’s unacceptable that I left off Taiyou even though it wasn’t in the running. Or Diamond. Or Jyoushaken or Special Song. Or Melody Flag. Or 28 years round, AHHHHH. D:

(quite possibly this is a gratuitous icon post.)
How is “Taiyou,” 3:00 minutes in when the harmonies kick in, the most beautiful thing on the actual planet?
Toko says I once pimped this song to him as “Mahler for J-pop,” and as ridiculous as that is I still think it’s sort of on the level. ![]()

Bump of Chicken: Star Bird
So I found a translation of the incredible illustrated fairy tale in the huge booklet that comes with the newest Bump of Chicken album, Orbital Period. The full text is below. It’s pretty clear when you see the drawings Fujiwara Motoo did that he was basing a lot of this off of The Little Prince, with some Narnia references thrown in. Given the cosmic and religious overtones of the entire album, it’s not a surprise. Fujiwara Motoo did all of the art and wrote the story.
